The Founders of the Iconic Irish Scent
Inis began in the 1980’s with a kitchen table conversation between the late Brian Cox and Donald Pratt, father and uncle of the CEO David Cox. The family were intrigued about the lack of Irish scent cologne and the two entrepreneurs decided to realise a dream – to start an Irish perfume company to create perfumes that reflected the beauty and magic of Ireland.
They took Arthur, their perfumer, to the breathtaking Dog’s Bay beach on the West Coast of Ireland one summer’s day in 1997 to give him inspiration to create the Irish scent. They wanted to capture in a bottle the feeling of a fresh summer’s day by the sea, and after 20 minutes he had his inspiration. 2 weeks later the Irish scent of Inis was born. Inis is the happiness of walking along the beach with the wind in your hair, sun on your face and sand between your toes - as happy as you are on your summer holidays.
Over 40 years later and into the 3rd generation, the Irish scent family company is going stronger than ever.

David Cox joined the family business in 1987, four years after its inception, and has led the company as CEO and Managing Director through the 1999 launch and global growth of the Inis brand.

Atlantic Seaweed used to make the Irish Scent
Inis uses hand-harvested Atlantic seaweed from the pristine waters off the coast of Ireland to formulate its Irish scent and body care products.
Steps involved in Harvesting Seaweed for the Irish Scent
1. Sustainable Hand-Harvesting - Inis sources its seaweed directly from the cold, unpolluted waters of the North Atlantic Ocean.
2. Manual Cutting - Harvesters wade out during low tide or use small boats to cut the seaweed by hand using knives or scissors.
3. Regeneration Protection - They carefully cut only the top sections of the seaweed fronds, leaving 15 to 25 cm of the base and the root system (the holdfast) completely intact. This allows the plants to naturally regenerate and protects the local marine ecosystem
4. Cleaning and Cold Extraction - Once brought ashore, the freshly harvested seaweed is taken to local facilities to be prepared for product integration
5. Purification - The seaweed is washed multiple times with clean water to remove sand, salt crusts, and tiny marine organisms.
6. Nutrient Preservation - The plants are processed carefully (often dried and milled or cold-pressed) without harsh chemicals or high heat. This clean extraction process ensures that vital amino acids, vitamins, trace elements, and antioxidants remain fully intact and potent. The nutrient-dense liquid extracts and dried flakes are then blended into the official Inis Body Care Collection alongside other moisturizing botanicals like shea butter, argan oil, and aloe vera
