McNutt of Donegal is a third-generation, family-owned mill producing high-quality homewares and fashion accessories. Established in 1953 by Bill McNutt, the company has a long-standing tradition of weaving, known for combining natural materials with skilled craftsmanship. Today, McNutt continues to use some of the world’s finest wool and linen yarns to create products that are designed, woven, and finished in-house.
Bill McNutt, inspired by the fabrics sold in his parents’ drapery shop, taught himself to weave and later trained others in the community. Early production began on handlooms in a repurposed community hall before moving to a custom-built mill where the company still operates today. The original weaving shed now serves as a gift shop, offering a selection of McNutt’s textiles and local goods.
The Founders

"Our mission is to ensure that nothing feels better than the pieces we create."
Location - Downings, County Donegal, Ireland
Located in the coastal village of Downings, County Donegal, McNutt of Donegal is now run by the second and third generations of the McNutt family, the company continues to grow while maintaining its roots in quality, design, and local heritage. From yarn selection to final finishing, each McNutt piece is the result of decades of expertise and a strong connection to the Donegal community.

The Process
Design plays a central role in McNutt’s identity. The in-house design team develops collections that reflect the surrounding Donegal landscape, with colors and textures inspired by heather-covered hills, rocky shores, and the changing light of the Atlantic coast. Their approach combines traditional weaving techniques with modern aesthetics, resulting in a range of throws, scarves, wraps, wool blankets and cushions that are both functional and timeless.

Sustainability at McNutt of Donegal
Sustainability is an ongoing focus for the business. McNutt actively reviews its production processes to reduce environmental impact, with an emphasis on responsible sourcing, waste reduction, and energy efficiency. Their commitment to sustainability is part of a broader effort to ensure their products are made with both care and conscience.
“We strive to create lasting products which bring joy to people around the world. At the heart of all we do is our commitment to ensure that “nothing feels better” than the pieces we create and that our production processes are as ethical and sustainable as possible to also ensure that “nothing is made better”. We never compromise on quality and we are committed to “doing the right thing” not just “saying the right thing”.
"Every McNutt product is woven in our mill along the rugged Wild Atlantic Way. We combine generations of textile craftsmanship with contemporary design to offer a superior alternative to imported brands."
